OPDSy — an Android OPDS reader that works properly with Ubooquity (successor to Kuboo)

Hi all, I'm the developer of OPDSy, an OPDS comic and ebook reader for Android. I run Ubooquity myself, and for years I read on my phone with Kuboo. But Kuboo died and nothing properly replaced it, so I built the reader I actually wanted.

One thing worth flagging for Ubooquity specifically: a lot of OPDS apps show blank comic pages against Ubooquity, because it advertises its page-stream link ( …/opds/comicreader/{id} ) as an image when that URL actually serves the HTML web reader. OPDSy detects this and requests the real /pagereader/ endpoint, so page-by-page comic streaming just works.

What it does:

• One library, many servers. Add as many OPDS sources as you like (I run Ubooquity alongside Calibre and even Project Gutenberg's catalogue). Each loads independently, so one slow or offline server never breaks the rest, and a colour badge shows where each item lives.

• Built for comics and manga. Streams page by page over OPDS-PSE with prefetching. Paged or continuous scroll, left-to-right or right-to-left, dual-page landscape spreads, pinch to zoom.

• Ebooks too, with adjustable fonts, themes, and optional read-aloud using your device voices.

• Wide format support. CBZ, CBR (also CB7, CBT); EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, FB2; plus PDF.

• Improved on Kuboo — adds reading-status/progress tracking and optional Google Drive sync so your place and favourites follow you.

• Read offline by downloading when you want, though streaming never requires it.

• Private by design. No accounts, no ads, and no tracking whatsoever. Credentials stay in your device keychain; the optional sync is end-to-end encrypted.

It's a paid app, a one-time £3.49, with no ads or subscription.

I use it daily against my own Ubooquity server and keep iterating on it. Feedback from fellow Ubooquity users very welcome, if you see problems let me know and i will fix it.

Hello. I am currently using OPDSy on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ and am enjoying it. I was previously using Panels on my iPad.

One thing I enjoyed about Panels was that I was able to swipe from right to left to load the next comic issue in a series when was finished with the current issue. Would that be something you could be able to add to OPDSy. Or if it is possible, could you guide me on how to do it? Thanks.

Other than that, I really like OPDSy and its ease of use and straight forward approach.

Sit tight! i will work on this feature, its been on the roadmap.

And thank you for the feedback!

This is now part of opdsy-v2.9.5.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick turnaround on my suggestion.

Keep up the amazing work on the app!

Hello again. Would it be possible for you to be able to program the app to be able to turn to the next or previous page by just tapping the left or right side of the screen? An example would be if I am reading a left-to-right style comic, if I tap the right side of the screen, the page goes forward and if I tap the left side of the screen, the page goes backwards.

Also, would it be possible for you to be able to program the app to zoom in on the page to be able to see the writing better. An example of this would be if I am reading a comic in portrait mode and a page comes up that is in landscape mode, I could pinch inwards on the page to zoom in and see the text more clearly.

Thank you for your work on this. It is now my primary comic and e-book reader!

I will add tap to page in my roadmap. I have this feature for books so it works with both swipes and taps.

In regards to pinch to zoom i have this feature already but its currently only when you have the reading settings for Layout > Paged. If its set to Vertical scroll its currently not enabled. That's another one for my roadmap.

I will work on it, but don't have a current date for when it will be live, I've been focusing a bit more on performance lately and large libraries.

Thats really encouraging to hear, im glad your enjoying it ... i use it personally on the daily too so still have a lot of features in the backlog. If you have some time would really appreciate a review of the app in the google play store!

Ive made the changes for this and pushed out a new build, this feature should be deployed and available in version v2.20.6 (you can see the version in the about section).

Thank you so much for your continued work and openness to suggestions.
