Why would I download and install this software without knowing the features it provides?

mpmansell 2 weeks ago updated by RiC 1 week ago 6

I doubt I am alone in this feeling and suggest that a section outlining the features this software provides on the main page.

I understand there might be articles online, or videos, or even a downloadable manual that would tell me but not everyone has time to waste,  especially if they eventually find the system id unsuitable.

I would prefer the creator of this FREE software being able to spend his valuable time to develop and improve it instead of reading **** from people complaining that they have to "waste" their time looking over a few pages to get an impression about the project. I suggest you just move on OP.

Thank you Tom for your great work!

Thanks RiC ! :)

RiC, you really are a rude individual. It was a valid question and not crap. However, if this is the quality of support and the community around this software then, maybe  IT is crap.

However, since there has been no attempt to make even a simple 'Features' list which outlines what the software is capable of, then unless I, and others potentially waste time in finding out it is crap, then we'll never know, will we? I'm not prepared to waste that time, and all the extra issues of installing/uninstalling software for the sake of a little extra bit of information.

Now, as for your snarky comment about 'reading a few pages', I did. Maybe it is your literacy and comprehension skills that are deficient if you do not realise that a lot of information is missing, or very hard to find. So hard to find, in fact, that I didn't find it, which is no better than not having it at all. Maybe you are just one of those idiots that installs stuff without thought. I seriously hope you do not work in any field where your reckless behaviour could compromise other peoples' security.

Now, if someone on this project doesn't have time to do a simple half page to do that, then, well, maybe they will have been wasting the rest of their time because many people will not use it, which would be a pity.

Also, since you, RiC, seem to have the time to further alienate other potential users, why don't you stop writing actual crap, like your snotty comment, and help them by writing up such a feature list. Then they won't be wasting their valuable time to do so and it is apparent your time is valuable enough to waste on snarkiness.

Now, this comment is not against the author of the software, other than my criticism of the lack of information which was for their benefit in helping attract other users to the software they have generously provided. It would be tragic if, for the want of a half page of text, their work was not appreciated.

Instead, this comment is to you, RiC, for your asinine rudeness and, for a person so invested in the software, stupidity. Grow up.

like Mr Spock would say : "fascinating" (with an ironic smile on his face) ...

Have you ever, and not just only for an second - look at https://vaemendis.github.io/ubooquity-doc/pages/manual.html
Found on the start page via "Read the quick start guide" ->

on this page, there is a very interesting link :

Qoute from the very top of the -> User Manual <-link above :

"Ubooquity is small content server that you can use on any device on which Java is installed (virtually everything running on Windows, Linux or Mac OS, including NAS). Once installed, it runs in the background and makes all the comics and books you chose to share available through a web page. The idea behind Ubooquity is to be able to browse your personal digital library from your tablet (e.g an iPad), your e-reader or your smartphone, either at home or from anywhere else."

So, WTF, what ist your (for my position NOT understandable) problem ?
You want an installer, a developer crew, some PR-Manager, eventually some Ads in the software and - a bunch of "support members" ?

Welcome here, well done - you found at least your own "rude support crew" : "IT-helpdesk, here is the Nr.42-Fix for any IT-related problems : please open a window, close the door -> and then throw your computer out.... "

Tom does this all alone (without any crappy Ads), and he also has a private life with family, leisure etc. - like yours (?) ...
He uses a time window in his personel livetime to do for this very nice peace of software a very good and relitable job.

I personally know a bunch of non-IT-related people who can substantial write some lines in config-files, but never write a line of code - and yet, they bring Ubooquity to work for her relatively easily, and they all are very happy with his work - because they try and use it, and it runs in minutes, not hours or days.

The only rude "Karen"-post here is your own if you claim that installing an eventually using Ubooquity would be a waste of lifetime - did you ask the same at your mobile or computer OS manufactur : " Hey apple/google, where ist the feature List of your OS, and could you explain it for me ??? ". Or did you ask for a "feature list" on your lifetime partner ?
No, you just try it, so do exact that : do it and try it ....

And : if you are not even able to read and understand a website for about 5-10 minutes, then you should definitely not use a comic reader database, but stick to the real paper comics : Their pages "load" exactly 1 time, on a monitor at least 60 times per second - just my "rude" 2 cents ...

Thanks Anton, no further comment needed!
